Comparison of EOD Disruptors and Dearmers

Introduction

This article provides a high level comparison of the disruptors and dearmers offered by Richmond Defence Systems. It outlines the broad roles of each tool and the contexts in which they are typically selected. It does not describe internal mechanisms, operational procedures or render safe methods. The aim is to support procurement teams and other stakeholders who wish to understand the relative positioning of each product within the wider equipment family.

Overview of the product family

Richmond Defence Systems offers a range of disruptors and dearmers that support different roles within the wider equipment family. Each product is designed for a particular balance of portability, effect and environmental suitability. This section provides a high level description of each tool to help readers understand its intended role and the context in which it is typically selected. The descriptions do not cover internal mechanisms or operational procedures.

Mini Mamba Disruptor

The Mini Mamba is a compact disruptor intended for work in confined or access constrained locations. Its small size allows it to be positioned with ease in areas where space is limited.

It is suited to tasks that require a low profile tool that can be placed accurately and handled with minimal bulk. It is often selected when portability and precise placement are important.

Mamba Midi Disruptor

The Mamba Midi is a general purpose disruptor that offers a balanced combination of size and effect. It is intended for routine tasks across a wide range of settings. Its form factor provides reach and stability without excessive weight.

It is often chosen when teams require a versatile tool that can address many day to day requirements without the need for multiple specialised devices.

Viper Dearmer Disruptor

The Viper combines dearmer and disruptor roles within a single platform. It is intended for situations where flexibility is valued and where users may need to move between different types of task without changing equipment.

Its multi role character supports teams that prefer to reduce the number of separate tools they carry. It is selected when adaptability and role consolidation are priorities.

Vulkan Dearmer Disruptor

The Vulkan is a higher energy dearmer and disruptor intended for more demanding tasks. It is suited to items that present greater structural robustness and require a stronger physical intervention.

Its larger size makes it a deliberate choice for specific situations rather than a general purpose tool. It is selected when the environment can accommodate a larger platform and when the task requires a more substantial effect.

Underwater Dearmer

The Underwater Dearmer is designed for submerged use. It is intended for maritime, littoral and flooded environments where land optimised tools are not suitable.

Its design supports handling and placement in water and reflects the additional constraints of underwater work. It is selected when tasks must be carried out below the surface or in locations that are partially submerged.

.50 Calibre Dearmer

The .50 Calibre Dearmer is based on a .50 calibre cartridge and is intended for situations where a robust dearmer effect is required.

It is suited to tasks that call for a strong physical intervention and where the surrounding environment can safely accommodate that level of effect. It is a deliberate choice for specific tasks rather than a general purpose option.

Factors that influence tool selection

Selection of a disruptor or dearmer is shaped by several contextual factors. These include the environment, the priority of the task and the degree of flexibility required.

Environment

Confined spaces favour compact tools such as the Mini Mamba. General indoor and outdoor settings suit the Mamba Midi. Submerged or flooded locations require the Underwater Dearmer. Larger tools such as the Vulkan and the .50 Calibre Dearmer are selected when space allows for deliberate placement.

Operational Priorities

Portability and rapid positioning favour the Mini Mamba and Mamba Midi. Flexibility between roles favours the Viper. A stronger physical intervention favours the Vulkan or the .50 Calibre Dearmer, subject to policy and environment.

Integration With Existing Equipment

Procurement teams often consider compatibility with existing mounts, stands and ancillary equipment. They may also consider training implications for operators who will use more than one type of tool.

Responsible Use

All products described in this comparison are intended for trained and authorised personnel working within national policy and organisational procedures. This article is conceptual and does not describe internal mechanisms or operational methods.
